I rang in the New Year as many know in a hospital bed recovering from surgery on my broken leg. I literally didn't get out to a screening for a couple months (even if I didn't still sneak out to see a couple of paid movies in the meantime). I was off of television and radio for months (I hadn't seen anything so I couldn't comment ya know).
After about 3 months I was back to doing most things, albeit slowly and sometimes with a little help from crutches. I really didn't get my full sea legs back under me until later in the year. And it set a year I had hoped for new things behind... that and a column I had been writing on DVD releases was pulled from the publication while I was out.I struggled with continuing on with this grand movie career. I thought about stepping away more than once but every time I feel called back here. So Im listening and ready for what the year has in store for me.
And make no mistake, 2017 is a new year - it's been a slow start as I expected. Hollywood doesn't screen much for us media types in the first month of the year. Yep, I'm resigned to the fact that I am a media type, despite that fact that it really only is majorly evident when awards season is rolling in.
So now, what does 2017 hold.
1) I want to write more. Yep - it's true. And that writing may come across a little more conversational than ever. I'm not going to be afraid to talk movies and whatever goes on in my life. Experiences and more...all for the good of this little blog.
2) I'm going to let you in on even more of the little things I do outside of here. I haven't been as active recently as I'm very busy in life outside of this site...and let's face it - if you're here and checking it out....I really don't take advantage of monetizing things here very well...at least at this moment.
3) I'm going to give you more video - maybe some links to live chats and more. Video is a great way to get things out there - but expect mine to be raw...not as polished as others may be... but definitely speaking from the heart.
4) I'm probably going to say some things that make some angry from time to time....let's talk about them and ALL opinions are valid. Opinion is just that....it's your opinion. I once spoke to a high school class that was putting movie reviews together for an English assignment and I told them.... "Look your teacher shouldn't be marking you down because she may disagree with the opinion you are stating...the opinion you state is YOURS ... BUT in a review you need to back up why you have that opinion so a reader can at least sometimes understand your thought process." 5) I'm going to have some fun - with pictures, videos, trailers and other pieces...
6) And I'm going to be one thing - ME and if anyone has a problem with it....sorry but tough.
