or listen to the great radio stations I am a part of like KMOX and the Weekends Around the Northwest stations
or even check me out on television at Real Milwaukee on Fox 6 in Milwaukee
or read my syndicated review monthly courtesy of the folks at Channel Guide Magazine and TV Guide Magazine
or have read my DVD columns at TV Weekly
These are all great outlets, and I want to continue those for some time to come....but I have let you, the readers of commonguy.com down. The content posted here has slipped and that needs to and WILL change. The web was my life for many years as I built my career in this world of movies, but today you need
to be as many places as humanly possible...so that's what I've done.
The question is .... why? Why does 2016 begin now?
Well...I'm about to share my story of how this year has progressed.
To do it...we must go back to Dec. 30 of last year.....
It was a cold and wet day in Wisconsin...sure ... I know... that is normal, but walking into the office in the morning I hit a patch of glare ice. As I explained it, Charlie Brown does this type of fall all the time, but he never gets hurt. Me...not so lucky....for the first time since I broke my pinky in 8th grade jumping over a row of chairs in a basketball game...I had a broken bone. Oh...and I broke actually two of them...and one of them, was done up REALLY good. I knew it the second I hit the ground. But I had the sense to grab my phone, call inside and get helped inside until the paramedics arrived.
Then it was off to the hospital. Didn't know really how bad it was until I got there, well that and when the paramedics called in a "leg deformity" and not a simple broken leg. This guy's New Year's Eve celebration would be recovering from surgery to insert a rod and 4 screws into my leg. (So now....if you think I have a screw loose....it IS possible.)
The next couple months have included 8 weeks of doing almost nothing other than elevating my leg, basically missing most of January or February theatrically speaking. A lot of middle of the day napping, mostly not by choice but in a medically induced state.
A slow road to recovery... that featured weeks of no weight on the foot, followed by partial weight, followed by walking with crutches and then to the point of today...walking fairly normally.
But God is good, doctors, nurses, therapists and the medical community took care of me, and now I'm pretty close to being back to myself. (I'll have that rod and screws and assorted pains during weather changes for life...so I won't totally be myself...excuse me for that.)
Now I sit here in May....and I just believe it's time to start the year! It took a lot of effort to get here. Even though I'm not totally cleared, I have a little over a week of therapy left with Zack and Lisa, and a final follow up with the good Dr. Stoesz....it's time.
So here's what I've decided to do here on this site. It's time to give you more. More of me. More of what I do. More movies. More fun. And a variety of topics.
So look for the following.
More frequent posting about everything, movies and beyond (DFS...you'll find out what that is, and more, sports, and human behavior in general)...though I'll try to stay away from Politics as it seems to be a hot button and heck...I'm a film critic....not a political advisor. That is NEW for me...so we'll see how it goes.
More video content...yep I'm headed back to my You Tube Channel to give you more originals.
More Common Guy. (quick reviews, dvd updates etc...)
Sure I still want you to follow me at my other quick take outlets like
Twitter - @commonguymovies
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/CommonGuyFilmReviews/
You Tube - Subscribe to commonguyfilmreviews on the service
(this is still a work in progress so no pretty picture here.
and who knows where else I pop up in the meantime.
Thanks for stopping, thanks for sticking with me.
I have this on my desk every day to encourage me....
Smile, Adjust, Achieve, SMILE!
Paul - aka just p, aka The Common Guy!
